Brad Files, Head Coach (21st Season) Email Brad
A 1988 NHS alum, Brad joined the varsity staff in 1997 as an assistant coach under Brian Fischer. Coach Files has been a part of three State Championships at NHS ('97,'01,'06) Following the departure of Hal DeBerry, he was named the varsity head coach in 2014. Prior to returning to Newport, Brad spent three years as the head coach of Bothell HS ('94-'96). ... Brad was a 3-year letterman outfielder at Newport for Coach Bob Mitchell, and shares the school record for consecutive hits (9) with Jay Miller ('02). ... Coach Files works with the hitters, outfielders, baserunners and coaches third base. ... He has been an Asst. Coach during the Summer for Food Giant and Lakeside Recovery Senior Legion for the past 22 summers. ... Played OF at Mesa CC ('88-90) and participated in the 1990 JUCO World Series... Played summer ball for the Northern Colorado Bears ('89) and the Fairbanks Goldpanners ('90). Brad and his wife Shawna live in Bellevue and have two sons, J.T. and Erik.
 
Jeff Range
Jeff Range, Asst. Coach (6th Season)
Jeff joined the Newport staff in 2012. After spending 2013 as the head coach of the freshman team, he was tagged as a varsity assistant by new head coach Brad Files in 2014. ... A 1991 graduate of Federal Way HS, Jeff was a middle infielder at Green River CC (1992), University of Nevada-Reno (1993), and Portland State University (1994-1995). After college he played 2 years of independent minor league baseball with the Ohio Valley Redcoats (1995) of the Frontier League and the Brainerd Bobcats (1996) of the Prairie League. He also serves as an assistant coach for the Lakeside Recovery Senior Legion team. Jeff and his wife Tanya live in Bellevue and have 3 kids, AJ, Caden, and Emma.
 
Eric Dworkis
Eric Dworkis, Pitching Coach (3rd Season)
A 2001 NHS grad, Eric played under the tutelage of current head coach Brad Files and team photographer Ronnie Allen. A three year letterman on the mound, Eric's career culminated with a 1-hit shutout over Hudson Bay in the 2001 State Title game (won 4-0). . Eric attended Gonzaga University (2001-2004) for his first three years of college, earning honorable mention freshmen All-American and being named second team All-Conference in his sophomore and junior seasons. Prior to his junior season, Eric was tabbed preseason Pitcher of the Year and the top draft prospect in the West Coast Conference. He played his senior year at the University of California at Berkeley (2004-2005) where he was named second team Pac-10. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants but was unable to sign a contract because of an elbow injury. Eric lives in Bellevue with his wife Shannon and daughter Westlyn.
 
Jason Kim
Jason Kim, Asst. Coach (4th Season)  
Jason was the C-Team head coach for two seasons (2014-2015) before becoming a varsity assistant in 2016. ... A former Knight ('05), he earned the Newport Defensive Player of the Year Award as a junior infielder, then his senior season was named Team MVP, 1st Team All-League, All-Regional and 2nd Team All-State at second base. ... Jason went on to Central Washington University, where played one season as a redshirt freshman, and graduated with a BS in Exercise Science and minor in Athletic Training. ... After Central, he continued his education at Palmer College of Chiropractic and while there returned to the diamond with De Anza College for the 2013 season, earning the Team Defensive Player of the Year Award and getting named to the Golden Gate Coast Gold Glove Team. ... Jason also played for and was the team captain of the 2012 Korean National Team, competing in South Korea. Coach Kim is the proud owner of Active Sports & Spine in Bellevue.
 
Mitch
Bob "Mitch" Mitchell, The Best Scorekeeper in Baseball  
Has coached either the varsity, JV or freshmen team since 1973. ... Has been in the dugout for all six of Newport's State Titles. ... As varsity head coach ('84-88), led nationally ranked 1987 team to a 17-1 league record, and produced two major leaguers, Erik Plantenberg ('87) and Steve Gajkowski ('88). ... Newport's Official Scorekeeper since 1997. ... Makes tape balls with the best of them. ... Played ball at Centralia CC ('49-50), US Army Team ('54) and WWU ('56). ... Taught history at NHS ('65-97). He and his wife Eleanor reside in Redmond and have three children, Lance, Linnea and Jill.
